Approximately 100 strips of negatives document Lee Hirschel's tour of duty in Vietnam with Helicopter Attack Light Squadron 3 [HAL(L) 3], May 1970 - May 1971.
Biographical / Historical
Born in 1950 in Tekoa, Washington, Lee Herschel volunteered for the United States Navy in 1969 and served for four (4) years. After training, he was assigned to HAL (Helicopter Attack Light) Squadron 3 located aboard the USS Ranger, where he held an MOS of Helicopter Crewman and Helicopter Maintenance. He was later transferred to Binh Thut, Vietnam where he held the rank of E4. Lee Herschel saw combat in various engagements and earned multiple medals, ribbons and commendations before being discharged in 1973 as an E5. After Vietnam, Lee attended college and worked as a civilian until retirement. He is a member of the HAL 3 Seawolf Association.
