One linear foot of photographs, negatives, and critique sheets document Joel Shanus' service with DASPO in Vietnam.
Biographical / Historical
Joel Shanus was born 30 December 1947 in Brooklyn New York. He was drafted into the U.S. army in 1967. Shanus served 4 1/2 years in the military of which 2 were in Southeast Asia. He was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division from 1968-69, and to DASPO from 1970-71. He served as a still photographer for DASPO and worked in the 1st Cavalry photo lab. Shanus received various awards and citations including: The Air Medal, Both Vietnam service medals, a CIB, and the Good Conduct medal. Shanus retired from the military in 1971 at the rank of E5.
