Twenty photographs document the USS Cavalier crew on R&R at Monkey Mountain Beach, Danang, circa June-August 1966.
Biographical / Historical
Thomas Pendergast was born in 1936 in New York City, New York. He volunteered for the US Navy in 1958 and served for 31 years, 2 of which were in Southeast Asia. Mr. Pendergast was assigned to OPNAV in Washington D.C. from 1959-1962, the USS Cavalier from 1964-1966, the USS Gridley from 1966-1968 and RESDESRON-30 from 1967-1968. He served as a Combat Information Officer, Boat Group Commander, and a Navigator on the USS Cavalier. Mr. Pendergast held the rank of Lieutenant. Mr. Pendergast also served in the Vietnam Advisory Campaign, the Vietnam Counteroffensive, and the Vietnam Counteroffensive Phase II. He received the Navy Achievement Medal for his action in Vietnam. Mr. Pendergast retired from the US Navy in 1990 at the rank of Captain.
