Scope and Contents
Less than a quarter of a linear foot of documents, military orders, clippings, correspondence and a map from Riley V. Boothe's service. The pamphlets and documents mainly cover Boothe's training in Infantry Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Primary Helicopter School in Fort Wolters, and R&R materials for Hawaii. Materials are dated from 1966 to 1968.
Biographical / Historical
Riley Boothe was born in 1945 in the small town of Snyder, Texas located in Scurry County. In 1966 he volunteered for the Army and remained active for over a decade serving for a total of twelve and a half years of service (one of which was in Southeast Asia). During those twelve and a half years, he was assigned with the 117th Assault Helicopter Company (August 1968 - August 1969). Throughout the Vietnam War, Boothe held the positions of both Air Mission Commander and Platoon Leader. He was stationed at Long Binh and held the ranks of 1Lt. and Captain. Some of the awards and citations that Boothe received for his service are as follows: 2-D.F.C., MSM, Airmedal with 'V' for Valor, ARCOM with 'V' for Valor, and the Bronze Star. Upon discharge, Riley Boothe held the rank of Captain. After his military service in Vietnam he became self employed and is currently a Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association member.
