One folder of military administrative documents, correspondence, articles, and 16 photographs document John J. Deacy's service in Vietnam with Detachment B-36, 3rd Mobile Strike Force Command (MSFC), Company A, 5th Special Forces Group from November 1967 through June 1969.

Biographical / Historical

John J. Deacy was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1945. He served in the United States Army for five years of active duty and for 24 years in the Reserve, retiring as a Colonel. He served in Vietnam from November 1967 through June 1969 with 3rd Mobile Strike Force, Company A, 5th Special Forces Group. While in Vietnam, Deacy received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, and Air Medal. He left active duty in 1969, but was called to return to active duty in 1990-1991 in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm where he served as a J-3 Special Forces Staff Officer with United States Central Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida. After his service in Vietnam, Deacy finished college at St. John's in New York and then joined the United States Customs Service where he was employed until his retirement in 1999.
