Scope and Contents
Less than one linear foot of photographs, museum artifacts, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and military administrative documents detailing Robert M. Holt's service with the 23rd Infantry Division (Americal Division), United States Army from 1967-1972. Also included are some correspondence awarding Holt the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal and the New Jersey Vietnam Service Medal. Most of the materials date from the war era and are in good condition.Biographical / Historical
Robert M. Holt was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on February 15, 1947. On November 28, 1966 he was drafted into the United States Army, beginning a total of twenty-one months of service. Holt completed his Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in the spring of 1967 before transferring to Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky from May to June 1967. Holt was then transferred to Fort Hood, Texas in July of 1967 until February 1968, when he was transferred to Vietnam with Company D, 5th Battalion, 46th Infantry, 198th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division. For his six month tour of duty in Vietnam, Holt acted as an E-4 infantry soldier and was stationed at Chu Lai and Da Nang. On August 30, 1968 he was discharged from the Army after having received the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He then attended Providence College in Rhode Island until his graduation in 1974. Holt is currently a member of the Americal Division Veterans Association.- 1
