The collection consists of audiotape letters, a U.S. Army nurse's uniform, photographs, and a speech containing Janice Whitehead's personal recollections of her service as a U.S. Army nurse in Vietnam. The materials are dated 1969, 2017, or are otherwise undated.Biographical / Historical
Janice Whitehead was born in Harlingen, TX in 1946. She volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1966. She served as a Medical-Surgical Nurse (MOS 3448) with the 29th Evacuation Hospital (November 1968 to April 1969) and the 3rd Surgical Hospital (April 1969 to November 1969). She was stationed at Binh Thuy. After her Vietnam service, Whitehead worked as an OB Supervisor at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA. In 1971, she was discharged at the rank of Captain. She remained a registered nurse in her civilian life until her retirement in 2014.- 1
