Biographical / Historical
Robert L. Gray was born in 1938 in Jane Lew, West Virginia. He volunteered for the United States Navy in 1956. Gray serviced twenty-six and half years in the navy with one and half years in Southeast Asia. He was assigned to River Section 523, River Division 572 from July 1968 to December 1968 then reassigned to River Division 594 from December 1968 to July 1969. He was later assigned to Nag Dong Tam from August 1971 to February 1972. He held the positions of PBR Boat Captain and Advisor to Vietnamese Navy Communication. While in Vietnam, he was stationed at Vinh Long, Moc Hoa, Nha Be, and Dong Tam. Gray was apart of various campaigns while in Vietnam and received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and other citations. He retired in 1982 at the rank of E-9. Gray currently belongs to the VFW, American Legion, AMVets, and PBR -FVA.
