Biographical / Historical
John K. Wells was born in 1922 and attended Texas A&M from 1940-1942. In 1942 he joined the United States Marine Corps and entered Officer Candidate School. Wells was the platoon leader for the 3rd Platoon, Company E, 28th Marines, which was particularly distinguished during the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II. After the war, Wells enrolled at Texas Tech and received a degree in Petroleum Geology. He retired from the United States Marine Corps Reserve with the honorary rank of Major in 1959.
