Painting of a door gunner's silhouette in a helicopter by David Duckett. The painting was taken from a Polaroid of Paul Swol taken near Pleiku in 1968.
Biographical / Historical
David Duckett was born in Canton, North Carolina in 1941. He volunteered for the United States Air Force in 1959. Duckett did a total of twenty years service with one year of service in Southeast Asia. He was assigned to Combat Skyspot from July 1966 to December 1966 and from January 1968 to July 1968. Duckett was a crew member on the Combat Skyspot in support of Ground Directed Bombing. While in Southeast Asia, he was stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam and Nakon Phanom, Thailand and held the rank of Senior Airman. Duckett received the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service in Vietnam. On January 1, 1980, he retired from the Air Force at the rank of Technical Sergeant. After his service in the Air Force, Duckett had a career in retail sales and hotel industry.
