Scope and Contents
One folder of a reports, orders, official military documents, awards and correspondence document Major Paul Lasker's service in Vietnam as an advisor for ARVN with Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV). All materials date from his service in the 1960s and includes the following materials of note: a MACV handbook co-written by Lasker, a combat fundamentals pamphlet, personnel sheets, and the Gallantry Cross, Division Level documentation for Lasker.
Biographical / Historical
Major Paul Lasker was assigned to Vietnam in December 1964 to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, ARVN 5th Division as a military advisor, replacing Captain Congleton after his death in his first operation of that unit. Specifically, he served as Assistant G-3 Advisor to the 5th Division and participated in the recapture of Phuoc Binh in April 1965. Lasker was then reassigned to MACV J-3 in July 1965 as a result of his promotion to Major. During this time, Lasker prepared a briefing paper for presentation to Secretary of Defense McNamara on what United States forces were needed for in South Vietnam during the calendar year of 1965. He was also involved in the drafting of the MACV handbook for the United States Military in Vietnam, a copy of which is included in this collection.
