Scope and Contents
Approximately one linear foot of military records, certificates, articles, and photographs document William E. Jones service with the 388th Tactical Wing in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Also included in the donation are records that identified Jones' remains when they were returned to the United States in 1985. Jones was shot down over North Vietnam on 5 January 1968 and was then listed MIA and later declared dead in 1976.Biographical / Historical
William E. Jones was born on 21 June 1940. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1962 and was commissioned in the United States Air Force after being involved in ROTC at Texas A&M. Jones served with the 388th Tactical Wing in Vietnam. His F-105D was shot down near Hanoi on 5 January 1968. Jones was listed as an MIA after the crash and was then later declared dead in 1976. His remains were positively identified and were returned from Vietnam to his family in 1985.- 2
