Scope and Contents

The collection consists of electronic media containing digitized papers and photographs from Colonel Lawrence Dacunto's two tours of duty in Vietnam, 1966-1967 with 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry and 1969-1970 as senior advisor to ARVN 1st Airborne Battalion and later with MACV as the III Corps Operations Analyst. Items of note include material submitted by Colonel Dacunto in support of his recommendation that the U.S. Army Valorous Unit Award be given to the South Vietnam 1st Airborne Battalion for their actions in a battle against the North Vietnam Army 88th Regiment in Tay Ninh Province from 13-17 August 1969.

Biographical / Historical

Lawrence Dacunto's first tour of duty in Vietnam took place from March 1966 until March 1967. During this tour, Dacunto served as a Lieutenant with the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade. During his second tour, which lasted from July 1969 until June 1970, Dacunto first served as an advisor to ARVN 1st Airborne Battalion and later as the III Corps Operations Analyst with MACV.
