Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately one linear foot of slides, photographs, and documents from Henry J. Kenny's tour of duty in Vietnam and his work with the U.S. House Select Committee on Missing Persons in Southeast Asia (including the committee's trip to Southeast Asia in December 1975), as well as Dr. Kenny's trip to Vietnam in 1977 with Leonard Woodcock (President of United Auto Workers) for President Jimmy Carter's Presidential Commission on POW/MIA issues, also known as the Woodcock Commission.Also included are approximately 1.25 linear feet of materials accumulated by Dr. Henry Kenny pertaining to various topics including Vietnamization, POW/MIA issues, imprisonments by the Pathet Lao, and normalization of US-Vietnam relations. The materials include books; artifacts; memos and correspondence; a briefing book for members of the 1977 Presidential Commission on Americans missing in Vietnam (Woodcock Commission); papers; reports; speeches; resolutions; pamphlets; booklets; Select Committee on Missing Persons in Southeast Asia materials; and clippings. These materials are dated predominately 1965-1977 and 1985-1988.
Biographical / Historical
Dr. Henry J. Kenny served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army and directed Specal Forces mission training. Dr. Kenny, Director of Studies for the U.S. military at CNA Corporation in Alexandria, Virginia, has served with the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, the American embassy in Tokyo, and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He returnted to Southeast Asia several times post-war, including in December 1975 with the House Select Committee on Missing Persons in Southeast Asia, and in 1977 with the Woodcock Commission. Dr. Kenny has taught undergraduate courses on international relations and problems of developing nations at West Point, and graduate courses on causes of war and theories of conflict resolution at American University and George Washington University.- 1
