Book 'Journey Back From Vietnam: One Soldier's Long Road Home From War' written by Wayne Purinton. The book is about Purinton's service in Vietnam and his recovery efforts from PTSD and humanitarian efforts educating children in Vietnam.
Also contains approximately .5 linear foot of correspondence from Wayne Purinton to his family at home. The majority of the letters are addressed to his parents; however, some are to his brothers, Chuck, Ron and Eddie. Contained in the letters are a homemade Mother's day card Purinton sent, as well as a description of the start of Operation Pershing. Wayne Purinton was in Vietnam with C Company, 5th Battalion, 7th Cavalry from April 1967 to March, 1968.
Biographical / Historical
Wayne Purinton was born in Flagler Colorado in 1947. He volunteered for the U. S. Army in 1966. Purinton served for two years in the Army, one year in Vietnam When he was stationed in An Khe, Vietnam he was a Specialist Four (E-4) in the Fifth Battalion Seventh Cavalry C Company designated as a Rifleman (RTO). Purinton received the Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and a V device for his service in Vietnam. Purinton Discharged as a Specialist Four (E-4) in 1968
