Biographical / Historical
Born in 1945 in New Britain, Connecticut, Bill Mattson volunteered for the United States Army in 1969 and served for over two (2) years. After training, he was assigned to Alpha Company, 7th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division where he served as a Platoon leader while being stationed at Bien Hoa, Vietnam and holding the rank of 2nd Lt. Bill Mattson saw combat during various engagements and earned multiple medals, ribbons, and commendations including the Bronze Star before being discharged in 1972 with the rank of 1st Lt. After Vietnam, Bill Mattson returned to college and earned a degree. He worked for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
