Biographical / Historical
Richard D Hill was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia on February 18, 1945. He volunteered for the United States Army in 1967 and served for twenty-four years and two months one year of which in Vietnam. Captain Hill (pay grade O-3) served with the Army Concept Team (November 1970 to May 1971), and with 1099th Trans Co Med. Boat [1099th Transportation Company Medium Boat] (May 1971 to December 1971) as a Ground Combat Evaluator (Military Occupation Specialty code 692) and Commander (Military Occupation Specialist code 668) at Long Binh 8th Group (I-Corps) Quang Tri Province, Cat Lai, and Binh Thuy. During Hill's service in Vietnam he participated in Operation Lam Son 719, and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Air Medal. Richard. D. Hill retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel (pay grade O-5) in 1991.
