Less than a quarter of a linear foot of documents about the donor John Compere. The collection includes a photocopy of his US uniformed service ID card and documents concerning his Vietnam Era veteran disability status.

Biographical / Historical

John Compere was born on July 7, 1941, in Abilene, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University and was active in Army ROTC, the Scabbard & Blade National Military Honor Society, Saddle Tramps, Rodeo Club, the Phi Delta Theta social fraternity, and was named a Distinguished Military Student. He graduated in 1963 with a B.A. in Government and Speech. Compere was a captain in the Army during his service in Southeast Asia. In 1969 and 1970, he was an Army lawyer and U.S. Foreign Claims Commissioner for HQ, USMACTHAI/JUSMAGTHAI with TDY duty in Saigon and Long Binh. During this time, he earned a Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Overseas Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Parachutist Badge, Joint Service Commendation Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He retired from the service as a brigadier general and is a Vietnam Era disabled veteran.
