Less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials that document James Yates' service in Vietnam with the 456th Munitions Maintenance Squadron from October 1972 to October 1973.
Biographical / Historical
Born in 1961 in Bremerton, Washington, James Yates volunteered for the United States Air Force in 1970 and served for six (6) years. After training, he was assigned to the 56th Special Operations Wing, 456th Munitions Maintenance Squadron, and held an MOS as a Weapons Mechanic while being stationed at Nakhon Phanom AFB, Thailand. James Yates saw combat while earning multiple medals, ribbons and commendations before being discharged with the rank of E4 in 1976. After Vietnam, he became a harsh critic of the US Congress. He is a member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
