Scope and Contents
Less than one linear foot of books written by Carey J. Spearman document his reflections of his service as a medic during the Vietnam Conflict. There is an unpublished and published version of Vietnam Veterans' Homecoming: Crossing the Line and two copies of the published version of 36 Years and a Wake-up: An American Returns to Vietnam . All published copies of the books are signed by the author and are in good condition.
Biographical / Historical
Carey Spearman was born on Staten Island in 1944. Spearman joined the U.S. Army in 1965, following basic training at Fort Dix, he was transferred to the X-ray branch of the Medical Service School for X-ray and combat training. In May 1967, Spearman was assigned to the 44th Medical Group and departed for Vietnam. Spearman was assigned to the 616th Medical Clearing Company, First Cavalry Base Camp at An Khe. In September 1967, Spearman was transferred to the 91st Evacuation Hospital at Tuy Hoa where he served until May 1968, when he returned to the United States.
