Scope and Contents
Less than a quarter of a linear foot of memorials written by Ralph J. Fries to memorialize the men who served with River Section / Division 535 and were killed in the line of duty.
Biographical / Historical
Born in Brewster, Washington in 1937, Ralph Fries volunteered in the United States Navy in 1957 and served for twenty (20) years. After training, he was assigned to multiple ships as an E1-E6 until being promoted to Warrant Officer and assigned as a Logistics Officer in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. He saw combat during the Tet Offensive in 1968 while earning multiple medals, ribbons and commendations before retiring in 1977. After Vietnam, Ralph Fries worked in the Trucking Industry and has worked on multiple projects in connection with the Vietnam War. He is a member of the MOA (Military Officers Association), the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the PBR-FA (River Patrol Boat) Association.
