Scope and Contents
Approximately two linear feet of materials documenting Michael G. Kelley's service in Vietnam as an advisor on the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) Team 71 in the Ba Xuyen province from 1969 - 1970. The collection includes correspondence to and from Kelly and his family and friends, military documents from Kelly's time in Vietnam, newspaper clippings, flags, other museum objects, photographs and slides.
Biographical / Historical
Born in 1945 in Annapolis, Maryland, Michael Kelley was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 and served for over forty-one (41) years. After training, he was assigned to MACV (Military Assistance Command Vietnam) and served with the Province Advisory Team 71, holding the rank of 1st Lt. and later Captain. Michael Kelley was stationed in the Bo Zuyen Province and saw combat during the Cambodian Incursion. He retired in 2000 with the rank of Colonel. After Vietnam, he returned to college and earned a PHD degree in history. Michael Kelley is a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
