4 linear feet of materials - comprised of books, periodicals, two scrapbooks with decorative covers of Asian painted scenes on lacquered wood, a moving image, map, and bumper sticker - document the career of ARVN Lieutenant General Lu Lan.Biographical / Historical
Lu Mong Lan, 28 September 1927 (Quang Tri) – 28 May 2021 (Virginia), was a Lieutenant General of the South Vietnamese Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). He received the Diplome d'Etudes Primaires Superieures Indochinoise (DEPSI), Lycee Khai Dinh, Hue, 1944."General Lu-Lan began his military career after graduating from the Vietnamese Military Academy in Dalat in 1951. Beginning as a company commander with the Vo Tanh Regiment in 1951, he held a variety of command and staff positions rising to become Chief of Staff of the Second Field Division in 1956. He then served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Training for the RVNAF Joint General Staff (JGS) and as J-3 for the JGs. He has commanded the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) 25th, 23rd and 10th Divisions.
"He has also been commandant of the Command and General Staff College, Chief of the Central Training Command, Commandant of the National Defense College, and, before becoming Inspector General in 1970 was the Commanding General of II Corps and the 2nd
Military Region.
"In addition to his training at the Vietnamese Military Academy, the general is a graduate of the Vietnamese Command and General Staff Course, and the American Army's Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
"Among other decorations he holds the National Order of Vietnam 3rd Class, the Army Distinguished Service Order, 1st Class, the Air Force Distinguished Service order, 2nd Class, the Navy Distinguished Service Order 2nd Class and all four Army Gallantry Crosses. He has also been decorated by the governments of the Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, France and Cambodia."
