Biographical / Historical
Born in 1942 in Washington, D.C., David Brown joined the United States Foreign Service in 1965 as a Junior Service Officer. He was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Saigon, Vietnam and served as a Political Officer and “Provincial Reporter” for III CTZ from 1966 to 1968. He later was detailed to CORDS as the Senior District Advisor and was stationed in Duc Tu and Bien Hoa in 1968 and 1969. David Brown worked within the Vietnamese Pacification Program and earned the Combat Civilian Badge before retiring as a Counselor in 1996. After Vietnam, he became a freelance writer on contemporary Vietnam.
