Scope and Contents
Half a linear foot of museum objects donated to the archive by Gerald Linville. The ceramic ash tray and silver zippo lighter are both decorated with the USS Frank E. Evans crest and were purchased by the donor from the ship's store during his 1967-1968 tour on the ship. The USS Frank E. Evans DD-754 Messmen shirt was issued to him while he served on mess deck duty during the same tour.Biographical / Historical
Born in 1947 in Glendale, California, Gerald Linville volunteered for the United States Navy in 1966 and served for almost four (4) years. After training, he was assigned to the 7th Fleet with an MOS of Fire Control Technician and served on several different ships while holding the rank of E3 and E4. Gerald Linville was a Petty Officer 3rd Class and served on the USS Frank E Evans DD-754 as a Gunney Fire Control Technician. He survived the collision of the USS Frank E. Evans. He saw combat during the Tet Offensive in 1968 and earned multiple medals, ribbons, and commendations before being discharged in 1970. After Vietnam, Gerald Linville held several different jobs before retiring.- 3
