Scope and Contents

Two copies of a book by John Burford: C-141 Starlifter in Action (Aircraft Color Series 1215 ; Squadron/Signal, 2009) and one thumb drive with PDF files of 1:25000 L8015 Topographic maps (33 files ; circa 1968) and L8020 1:25000 Pictomap Supplement (544 files ; circa 1965) of South Vietnam and the southern part of North Vietnam (immediately above the 17th parallel).

Biographical / Historical

John Burford was born in Charleston, West Virginia, in 1943. In 1960 he volunteered for the U.S. Army, serving a total of 7 years 4 months. He served one tour with as a Sergeant (E-5) and patrol leader (11B4P) with Company F, 58th Infantry Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP), 101st Airborne Division at Camp Eagle in I Corps. He went on 16 LRRP missions, five with enemy contact. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster.

Following his discharge from military service in 1968, he returned to work at the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. He later went to college and then worked in sales.
