One book, The Blades Carry Me: Inside the Helicopter War in Vietnam, James V. and Anne Weatherill, 2014. The book takes the reader into the CH-47 Chinook helicopter cockpit and the daily life of a 22 year old pilot. It also includes Anne Weatherill's experience as a pregnant college senior and military spouse.
Biographical / Historical
Born in December 1945, James Weatherill volunteered for the United States Army in 1966 and served for over six (6) years. He attended the US Army Helicopter Flight school in 1967 and was assigned to the RVN 180th ASHC in November of that year. He held the rank of WO1 (later promoted to CWO2) and served as a flight instructor on helicopters while being stationed at Phu Niep, Vietnam. He saw action during the Tet Offensive in 1968 and also in the counter offensives IV, V, and VI. While on active duty, James Weatherill earned multiple medals, ribbons and commendations before being discharged in 1970. After Vietnam he became an airline pilot while serving in the US Army Reserves. James is a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and the Vietnam Veterans Association.
