Scope and Contents
Less than a quarter of a linear foot of documents donated to the archive by Hai T. Dang. The documents contain a copy of an award citation given to Dang by the U. S. Government, and a copy of an article written about his son Hung Tran Dang's service in Desert Storm.
Biographical / Historical
Born in 1940 in Hai Phong, North Vietnam, Hai Dang was drafted for the Army of the Republic of Vietnam in 1965 and served for ten (10) years. He served until the very last day when South Vietnam fell to the North Vietnamese. Hai Dang was an English Language Instructor at the Armed Forces Language School in Saigon where he held the rank of Captain. He saw action in the Tet Offensive in 1968 and earned multiple medals, ribbons, and commendations for his service. He was captured by the North Vietnamese and held prisoner for five years before being released and immigrating to the United States through the Orderly Departure Program of the US State Department. After Vietnam, Hai Dang worked for the Housing Authority of Santa Clara County from 1988 until his retirement in 2012. He is a member of the South Vietnamese Veterans Association in California.
