Scope and Contents
The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of slides donated to the archive by Becky Griffin. The images were taken by her brother Lynn Howard Griffin during his service in Vietnam with the 5th Engineers at Quang Tri. The slides show military equipment and soldiers, the Vietnam countryside, and beach scenes. The images are dated from 1969 to 1971.
Biographical / Historical
Born in 1949 in Amarillo, Texas, Howard Griffin volunteered for the United States Army in 1969 and served for two (2) years. He was assigned to the 5th Engineers Division and did two tours of Service with this unit. Lynn Griffin held the rank of sergeant while being stationed at Quang Tri, Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He earned multiple medals, ribbons and commendations for his service before being discharged in 1971. After the military Lynn Griffin worked for Halliburton industries and later for Cummings Diesel. He died in August 2009 from complications associated with Agent Orange.
