Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately a quarter of a linear foot of artwork and documents donated to the archive by David Hendrickson. Hendrickson served in the Navy and worked at U.S. Naval Support Activity at Danang from March 1966 through October 1967. The artwork includes pencil drawings of various ships and watercolors of scenes he remembers from his service. The artwork is dated from 2011 through 2017. The documents include an annotated chart of Danang harbor and Hendrickson's liberty pass. These materials date from 1966 through 1967.

The collection also includes slides taken by David Hendrickson while he was stationed at the U.S. Navy Support Activity in Da Nang, Vietnam from March 1966 until October 1967.
Biographical / Historical
David Hendrickson was born in 1945 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He volunteered for the Navy in 1965 and spent eighteen months in Vietnam, from March 1966 to October 1967. He worked in communications as a messenger and radio operator at Naval Support Activity, Danang. He was assigned to the Operations Control Center, where he assisted in coordinating cargo handling and harbor operations. He left active duty in 1969 as a CYN 3 (Communications Yeoman 3rd Class, E-4). After leaving the military, Hendrickson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Norfolk State University. He worked as a police dispatcher and as a warehouse manager for a medical center.
