Scope and Contents
Approximately three quarters of a linear foot of magazines and newsletters donated to the archive by Charles Winer. Winer was on the editorial staff of the Hawk magazine during his time in service in Vietnam 1970. In addition to the Hawk, this collection includes magazines from other units like The Hurricane, Typhoon, the KYSU, and Rendezvous with Destiny to name a few. All materials date from 1968 through 1972.Biographical / Historical
Charles Winer was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1946. Winer was drafted and then enlisted to attend the Defense Information School before serving in the Army for three years. During his service, Winer spent one year in Vietnam with the 1st Aviation Brigade. He was a Specialist 5 Combat Correspondent/Photographer and Editor of Hawk Magazine based at Long Binh.He received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. After Winer's service in the army, he worked in healthcare administration for 45 years. Charles Winer was honored to serve with the 1st Aviation Brigade and fly with many outstanding individuals.
