Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately half of a linear foot of periodicals and documents accumulated by Les Davison. The materials include several issues of Hawk magazine (published by the 1st Aviation Brigade) from 1969 through 1970, two issues of the USARV Aviation Pamphlets, and a photocopy of The Reporter news magazine from May 8, 1965. The collection also contains a quarter of a linear foot of textual records documenting the activities of the 155th Assault Helicopter Company (155th AHC) during the unit's service in Vietnam from 1965 to 1970. The documents include a commendation citation for the Distinguished Flying Cross, a 155th Assault Helicopter Company roster, and unit histories for 1965-1966 for the 155th Aviation Company, and from 1967-1970 for the 155th Assault Helicopter Company. The collection also includes the 1969 annual supplement to the history of the 10th Aviation Battalion (Combat) and unit newspapers Vagabond Voice (10th Combat Aviation Battalion) and Poolside Parable (155th AHC). The materials also include photographs, postcards, and a DVD with digitized photographs. The materials are dated 1965-1970.
Biographical / Historical
Born in 1947 in Peoria Illinois, Les Davidson volunteered for the United States Army in 1967 and served almost three (3) years. While serving in Southeast Asia and Vietnam his rank was Warrant Officer 1 with an MOS as a helicopter pilot with the 155th Assault Helicopter Company. He was stationed at Ban Me Thuot and the Central Highlands. During his service he earned multiple medals, ribbons and commendations for his service before being discharged in 1970 as a CWO 2. Les returned to college and worked as a Civil Service employee. He is a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association.
