Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately 0.75 linear feet of materials documenting Specialist Patrick Guy's U.S. Army service with B Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. The materials include books; photo albums; photographs and images; award citations and certificates; yearbooks; moving images; reunion programs; correspondence; rosters; personal narratives; military orders; service records; unit newspapers; newsletters; clippings; and a return trip to Vietnam itinerary. The materials are dated 1969-1970 and 2004-2019.
Biographical / Historical
Born in Sparta, WI in October 1946, Patrick Guy worked for the Continental Can Company before being drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1968. After eight weeks in basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky he studied advanced infantry training at Fort Lewis, Washington before serving 1969 in South Vietnam. He served as a rifleman with B Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division stationed at Lai Khe. He was involved in attacks at the Song Dong River. He received numerous awards inclduing two Air Medals and the Bronze Star. He concluded his military career with C Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division guarding the Czechoslovak border in Germany in 1970 and was honorably discharged in May of that year. After his military service, he completed a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and a Master of Science degree from Southeastern University in Washington, DC. For the next 25 years, he served in the Federal Service and worked as a college and high school teacher.
