Biographical / Historical
In September 1965, Thomas Faley was serving as platoon leader of A Troop, 17th Cavalry, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. During a firefight with Viet Cong forces near Qui Nhon, Faley was hit in the rear but appeared to be uninjured. Days later, he discovered a hole in the back of his trousers and a 30-caliber bullet nestled inside his wallet. The wallet had saved him from being wounded.
