Biographical / Historical
Kenneth Ray Olson was born in Stanley, North Dakota in 1947. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army as a Clerk Typist from 1969 to 1971 and in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1971 to 1973. After leaving the army at the rank of SP5, Olson completed his M.S. and Ph.D. in Soil Science from Ohio State University and Cornell. He became a soil scientist and taught soil science for over 35 years at the University of Illinois.
