Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately 1.5 linear feet of internal memos, correspondence, clippings, newspapers, Quaker Service Vietnam bulletins, pamphlets, publicity materials, directories, photographs, and slides relating to the operation of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) operation in Quang Ngai, Vietnam in 1967-1968. The items were collected by Richard and Cynthia Johnson during their time in the country and after the closure of the program following the Tet Offensive. The AFSC operated a daycare program for refugee children and a home economics school for Vietnamese women, as well as a program to provide amputees with prosthetics, known as the Quaker Rehab Center. The rehab center also treated burn victims, half of whom were Napalm victims. The materials are predominately dated 1964-1972.
