The collection consists of approximately 0.75 linear feet of materials documenting Kenneth Hatcher's service as a Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11 at Dong Ha, Vietnam during 1967. The materials include photographs; propaganda leaflets; artifacts; correspondence; a U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11 daily schedule; clippings; newspapers; poetry; sketches; fact sheets; congressional records; press releases; a website printout of a scan of the Dong Ha Combat Base master plan; transportation authorization slips; transfer orders; a U.S. Naval Hospital Corps School graduation exercises program booklet; and Hatcher's journal from his year in Vietnam (including a transcribed copy). The materials are dated 1961 and 1966-1967.Biographical / Historical
Kenneth Hatcher was born in Sheffield, Alabama in 1943. He joined the Naval Reserve in 1961 and later became active duty on August 30, 1965. He served as a Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11 at Dong Ha, Vietnam from April 28, 1967 to August 5, 1967. He was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. He was discharged from the Navy on August 6, 1967. After leaving the Navy, Hatcher worked as a teacher.- 4
