The collection consists of Vietnamese stamps and a personal narrative documenting Major John Weber's USAF service as a C-130 pilot in Vietnam.

Biographical / Historical

Major John Joseph Weber was born in 1948 in Massillon, OH. He did ROTC at Kent State from 1966-1970 and graduated with a commission in the USAF as a 2nd Lieutenant. He completed a year of pilot training at Laredo AFB, TX. From February through August 1972, he completed C-130 training at Little Rock AFB, AR; water survival training at Homestead AFB, FL; and jungle survival training at Clark AFB, Philippines. He served as a C-130 pilot with the 7th Airborne Command and Control Squadron at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand (1973), the 21st Tactical Airlift Squadron at Clark AFB (1974-1975), and the 3rd Security Police Squadron at Clark AFB (1975-1978). His work with the 21st TAS included flying two UN Peace Commission missions from Saigon to Hanoi during the summer of 1974. In 1978, he was assigned to the 9th Military Airlift Squadron at Dover AFB, DE, where he flew the C-5 Galaxy. He held this position until his retirement in February 1991, except for a one year assignment as Chief of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing Command Post at Kunsan AB, Korea in 1986.
