Scope and Contents
The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Lieutenant Colonel GA Redding's service as a Public Information Officer with MACV from September 1971 to September 1972. The materials include a Christmas card, a pass to a Sammy Davis Jr. performance, correspondence, training materials (Vietnamese language instruction, voice radio operator), a CORDS telecommunications survey report, an academic thesis, a propaganda leaflet, a flash drive containing writings by Lt. Col. Redding recounting his military service during and after the Vietnam War, and DVDs containing histories and other documents pertaining to the history of American Forces Vietnam Network (AFVN), U.S. Army Photography, and Military Assistance Command Office of Information (MACOI). Also included is an oral history interview conducted with Lt. Col. Redding. The materials are dated predominately 1970-1972 and 2020-2024.
Biographical / Historical
Lieutenant Colonel GA Redding was born in 1946 in Fort Crook, NE. He joined the Army ROTC program and became a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1968. He served in Vietnam as a Public Information Officer with MACV Team 1 stationed at Danang from September 1971 to September 1972. He received numerous awards including the Republic of Vietnam Air Service Medal and the Vietnamese Honor Medal 1st Class. He retired from military service in July 1990 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

After his military service, LTC Redding did consulting work before being retained by the Institute for Defense Analyses.
