Scope and Contents
The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting CW2 Bennie See's service as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. The materials include See's Vietnam War diary, a photocopy of the diary, a transcription of the diary, and a CD containing a digital copy of the diary.
Biographical / Historical
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Bennie See was born September 1948 in Paducah, KY. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1968. He served for three years and spent one year in Vietnam. During his tour of Vietnam, CW2 See served as a helicopter pilot with Troop B 7/17 Air Cavalry - including being a co-pilot on the AH-1G and a pilot and aircraft commander on the UH-1H. He was stationed in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam including Phan Thiet, Pleiku, Ban Me Thout, and Phan Rang. His unit's primary responsibilities included conducting reconnaissance missions along the Cambodian border, where they frequently engaged with the enemy. He received the Bronze Star, 20 Air Medals, 2 Vietnam Service Ribbons, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry before being honorably discharged in 1971. Following his military service, CW2 See worked as an exploration geologist for major oil companies.
