Scope and Contents

Less than one linear foot of newspapers, newspaper clippings, photographs, artifacts, slides, Dong notes, and military administrative documents detail Michael Shoemaker's military service during the Vietnam Conflict, 1966 - 1970. The bulk of the materials date from the war era, with a small portion dating from the 1980s.

Biographical / Historical

Michael D. Shoemaker was born in Lebanon, Indiana, in 1947. He volunteered for the U.S. Air Force in 1966. Of his total four years of service, one was spent in Southeast Asia where he held the rank of Air Force Special Security/E-4, at Tan Son Nhut Air Base from 1968 to 1969. He was awarded an Air Force Commendation Medal as well as Vietnam Service Medals for his service. He was discharged at the rank of E-4 in 1970. After his service he attended the University of Missouri. Mr. Shoemaker is currently a member of both the Vietnam Veterans of America association, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars association.
