Scope and Contents

The collection consists of approximately 4 linear feet of materials documenting Specialist James Logue's service with A Company, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 23rd (Americal) Division in Vietnam, October 1969 to October 1970.

The materials include books; daily staff journals; after action reports; map overlays; newspa1ers; memos and correspondence; military orders; service records; certificates, award citations, and letters of commendation; unit histories; notes; personal recollections; artifacts; Chieu Hoi propaganda and other flyers/leaflets; clippings; Vietnamese and Japanese documents; ephemera; and slides, proof sheets, negatives, and 1.33 TB of digital materials used in the publication of Logue's book Rain in Our Hearts. The materials are dated 1968-1971, 2002, 2006-2014, and 2020.

Biographical / Historical

Specialist 4 James Allen Logue was born in Camden, NJ in 1947. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969 and served for two years. He served one year in Vietnam (October 1969 to October 1970) as an infantryman and radiotelephone operator (RTO) with A Company, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 23rd (Americal) Division stationed at Hiep Duc. From April-June 1970, he was involved in a major battle against the 2nd NVA Division. He received the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal before being honorably discharged in 1971. After his military service, Sp4 Logue worked as a photographer.
