Scope and Contents
The collection consists of audio letters and a newspaper article documenting Louis Breuer's military service with F Troop, 9th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, in the An Loc area of Vietnam, and his death on June 20, 1972. The materials are dated 1972.
Biographical / Historical
Louis K. Breuer IV was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March, 22, 1946. He grew up mostly in Richardson, Texas, graduating from Richardson High School in 1964. He attended Texas Tech University where he started at the tight end position for Red Raiders football from 1966 to 1968.

Breuer joined the Army in 1969. He attended basic training and advanced infantry training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He went to Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and after OCS he received extensive flight training. He was commissioned as a lieutenant and arrived in Vietnam on September 24, 1971, serving as an armored reconnaissance unit commander and attack helicopter pilot with F Troop, 9th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division in Binh Long Province. 1LT Breuer was killed on June 20 when his Cobra gunship was hit by an enemy SA-7 missile while on a mission over An Loc, just hours before his unit stood down from combat in Vietnam.

His military awards include 2 Silver Stars for his Vietnam service, the second of which was awarded posthumously for his actions on June 20, 1972.

He is buried at the Fort Sill Post Cemetery in Oklahoma. His name is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC (Panel W1, Line 47).
