Scope and Contents
The collection consists of approximately 2 linear feet of materials documenting Jay Haney's U.S. Army service as 16th Regimental Battalion Liaison Officer and G2 Advisor to the 9th ARVN Infantry Division from October 1971 to October 1972. The materials include books; moving images; memos and correspondence; U.S. Military Academy course materials; microfiche; award citations and certificates; speeches/public remarks; articles, clippings, abstracts, and excerpts; Jay Haney's memoir Full Faith and Credit (including drafts, notes, and research materials); after action reports; daily staff journals; command histories; an oral history transcript; flyers and pamphlets; periodicals; photographs; reunion materials; and electronic media. The materials are dated predominately 1969-1972, 1979-1984, and 2018-2024.
Biographical / Historical
Major Jay Bernard Haney was born in Pittsburg, KS in 1947. He volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1965, where he served for 29 years. He served with MACV Advisory Team 60 from October 1971 to October 1972, during which time he served as Deputy Senior Advisor with the 16th Regimental Combat Advisory Team (RCAT), as TOC Duty Officer with the 60th Division Combat Advisory Team (DCAT), and as the G-2 Advisor for the 9th ARVN Infantry Division. He was stationed at Rach Gia, Nui Non Soc, Hoa Luu, and Dong Thai. He was involved in the Easter Offensive of March 1972. He received numerous awards including the Bronze Star and the Air Medal. He retired from active duty at the rank of Major in 1995. After his military service, he enjoyed a 25 year career with a commercial bank and then did independent consulting work.
