Scope and Contents

The collection consists of approximately half of a linear foot of materials documenting Chief Warrant Officer David Robin's military service, including his time as a helicopter pilot with the 56th Transportation Recovery Company stationed at Vung Tau from 1965 to 1966. The materials include photo albums; educational and training records; award citations; periodicals; artifacts; articles and clippings; images; certificates; slides; and photographs. The materials are dated 1965-1966, 1970-1971, 1978, 1985, 1995, and 2001.
Biographical / Historical
Chief Warrant Officer David Robin was born in 1941 in Syracuse, New York. He volunteered for the Army in 1959. He served a total of 26 years, with 13 active and 13 reserve, out of which 2 were in Vietnam. He worked for the 52nd Transportation Company from April 1965 to April 1966. Another Company he worked for was the HHC (Headquarters and Headquarters Company), 3rd Brigade 1st Cavalry Division from April of 1970 to April of 1971.

The positions CWO Robin held during the Vietnam War were:
1st Tour 67N10 SP5-E5 Crewchief/gunner on a recovery Huey;
2nd Tour 67IC CW2 Helicopter Maintenance Officer and Test pilot.

CWO David Robin was at Tan Son Nhut (Saigon) on his 1st tour and at Quang Loi and LZ MACE on his 2nd tour. He held the ranks of Specialist 5 and Chief Warrant Officer 2 throughout service in Southeast Asia, where he participated in various campaigns. The awards he received for his service in Vietnam are the folliowing: DFC; Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Medal with HO Clusters.

CWO David Robin retired in 1985 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4.

After his military service in Vietnam, Chief Warrant Officer 4 David Robin worked as a supervisor at General Motors, from where he retired. Afterwards, he worked as a school bus driver.
