The collection consists of two photo albums and a DVD of photograph/slide scans documenting Specialist Frank Ferry's service as a helicopter gunner/crew chief with the 339th Transportation Company (Direct Support) in Nha Trang, Vietnam. The materials are dated 1964 or are otherwise undated.
Biographical / Historical
SP5 Frank G. Ferry was born in 1945 in Norwich, Connecticut. He volunteered for the Army in 1963 and served for 3 years, one of which was in Southeast Asia. The Units of his assignment were the following:

Fort Dix, NJ, basic training, from August 1963 to September 1963;
Fort Rucker Alabama, - Aviation Maintenance Training from October 1963 – December 1963;
Nha Trang Vietnam, working as “Recovery Section” Gunner – CC at the 339th Transportation Company Direct Support (DS), from January 1964 to January 1965;
Floyd Bennette Field Brooklyn New York – Crew Chief of the 1st Army Flight Detachment, from January 1965 to January 1966;
II Corps Headquarters Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, New York, working as the Crew Chief at Miller Field, from January 1966 to July 1966.

During the Vietnam War, Frank G. Ferry held the following positions:

67K20 Multi English Aircraft Mechanic;
Gunner on CH37B Mojave;

His duties included maintaining M60’s, ammunition, crew drinking water, and five-gallon oil cans.

The ranks Frank. G. Ferry held throughout his service in Southeast Asia were Private First Class and Specialist 4.

Frank G. Ferry was involved with Operation Blue Spring. The awards and citations he received for service in Vietnam were: Air Medal, Army Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation.

Frank G. Ferry left the Army in 1966, with a rank of SP5. After his military service in Vietnam, he graduated from the College of Aeronautics on the G.I. Bill. From 1968 to 1970, he worked as a Lockheed Aircraft Mechanic, as well as the Flight Dipatch Officer for TWA Trans World Airlines from 1970 to 1999 and as a Flight Dispatch Training and Standards Instructor for Atlas Air from 1999 to 2001.

SP5 Frank G. Ferry belongs to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1041.
