Scope and Contents
The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials documenting Jerry Willis' USMC service with C Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines in I Corps. The materials include images; narratives; reports; unit histories; and KIA lists.
Biographical / Historical
Jerry A. Willis was born in Georgia in 1946. He graduated basic training at MCRD at Parris Island in 1965. After working security for a United Nations post in Iceland in 1966, he went to Vietnam. From January to May 1968, he served with C Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines in I Corps. He was stationed at Charlie 4, a bunker outpost along the north coast of Vietnam. His unit was spread out along the McNamara Line and provided watch and security along the DMZ. In May 1968, he was wounded in an attack. He was flown first to the USS Repose for surgery and then returned to the United States.
