Scope and Contents

The collection consists of less than a quarter of a linear foot of materials accumulated by Patrick Gillis during his U.S. Army service as a radio operator in the Tactical Operations Center with MACV Team 56 in Can Tho from January to December 1968. The materials include newspapers and an award citation. The materials are dated 1967-1970. Also included is a flash drive containing digitized photographs documenting Gillis' military service in Vietnam, as well as the service of various other soldiers from whom Gillis sourced the photographs. The photographs document the period 1962-1972.

Biographical / Historical

Patrick J. Gillis was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. He served as a radio operator in the Tactical Operations Center with MACV Team 56 in Can Tho from January to December 1968. His radio handle was The Voice of the Delta. He was involved in the Tet Offensive of 1968. He received two Bronze Stars, two Presidential Unit awards, and two Meritorious Unit awards.
