The collection consists of images documenting Wayne Moody's U.S. Army service as a battery commander with 1st Battalion, 60th Artillery and with C Battery, 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery from 1967-1968.
Biographical / Historical
Wayne Moody enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965. He went to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO for basic training and Ft. Sill, OK for Officer Candidate School training. He was assigned a position as an air defense artillery officer. He trained with Quad 50s and Twin 40s (Dusters) for a year at Ft. Bliss, TX before deploying for Vietnam (1967-1968). He first served as a battery commander with 1st Battalion, 60th Artillery stationed at Qui Nhon where he deployed Quad 50s. He then became platoon leader (and soon executive officer) with C Battery, 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery, where he worked with Dusters to complete objectives including defending road construction to Danang, guarding a bridge crossing on the Bong Son River, and defending LZ Uplift and LZ Two Bits during the Tet Offensive. He received the Bronze Star for his performance during the Tet Offensive. In 1968, he left the military. He became an engineer and worked on numerous projects in Alaska, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
