Scope and Contents

The collection consists of slides (including digital scans) documenting Captain Charles Kleebauer's U.S. Army service as Senior ARVN Battalion Advisor with 22nd/41st/1st and Team Leader of 5th Special Forces B Team S-2/A based in II and IV Corps (1962-1964), his work as a CIA operations officer in Savannakhet, Laos inserting teams into the Ho Chi Minh Trail from Mugia to Tsepone (1966-1968), and his involvement in post-Vietnam operations in various countries including El Salvador, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Biographical / Historical

Captain Charles P. Kleebauer, Jr. was born in San Francisco in 1934, where he attended George Washington High School and University of California Berkeley. He joined the U.S. Army and attended Officer Candidate School. In 1962, after one year on the DMZ in Korea, he was sent as an advisor to Vietnam. He served as Senior ARVN Battalion Advisor with 22nd/41st/1st and Team Leader of 5th Special Forces B Team S-2/A based in II and IV Corps (1962-1964). He also worked as a CIA operations officer in Savannakhet, Laos inserting teams into the Ho Chi Minh Trail from Mugia to Tsepone (1966-1968).
